Master Builders Tasmania is the latest group to throw their weight behind the proposed stadium project at Macquarie Point.
CEO Matthew Pollock said the project not only has the potential to create thousands of jobs and boost the building and construction sector for a decade, but also to be more than just a football field, transforming into a “game-changing urban renewal project” that would bring benefits to the entire state.
“We have an opportunity to create something that is world-class, that hundreds of young Tasmanians would be able to build and contribute to, and would create lasting benefits for generations to come.”
In December the forecast cost of the project dropped $35m from $750m to $715m, with the Tasmanian Government already committing $375m.
The AFL has committed $15m and the remaining $85m is set to be funded elsewhere.
The federal government has been asked to contribute $240m, but is yet to commit.
