Landmarks across Tasmania have lit up in the red & white colours of Denmark’s flag, honouring Hobart-born Princess Mary as she officially becomes Queen of Denmark.

The Tasman Bridge in Hobart, the Launceston Town Hall and Devonport’s paranaple convention centre all lit up as the sun set on Sunday.

Other buildings, including Wrest Point in Hobart, have also lit up in the colours of Denmark’s flag.

Tasmanian Acting Premier Michael Ferguson says Mary epitomises what it means to be Tasmanian.

“[She’s] humble, hard-working and quietly pursuing the extraordinary.”

In honour of her proclamation, the Tasmanian Government have donated $10,000 to the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, a charity which Mary is an international patron of.

Meanwhile the Federal Government have donated $10,700 to Wildcare Tasmania in honour of Mary, supporting efforts in ensuring the survival of the Tasmanian Devil.

Mary will officially become Queen between 11:30pm and 3:30 am Tasmanian time.
