Taroona residents host Queen Mary coronation picnic in honour of Tasmanian royal

A group of around 20 residents from the Hobart suburb Danish Princess Mary grew up in have come together for a ‘royal picnic’, ahead of Mary’s coronation tonight.

The gathering was organised in the Taroona Good Karma Network Facebook group, encouraging the community to come together to celebrate Mary becoming Queen.

The event at Taroona Beach was filled with danish flags, while people dressed in their best red and white clothes.

Mary grew up in a modest home on nearby Morris Avenue and went to Taroona High School, before later attending Hobart College and the University of Tasmania.

She was living in Sydney as a marketing executive when she met Prince Frederik at Sydney’s Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympics.

Tasmanians can send a personal message to the Royal Couple via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark’s ‘Online Book of Congratulations’.
