Jean Hutton, one of Tasmania’s oldest people, will celebrate her 107th birthday on Saturday, with Bruny Island and a loving marriage being the secrets to her longevity.
Mrs Hutton was born in 1916 and grew up in North Hobart, but spent much of her life at the family shack on Bruny Island before retiring to live there.
Her husband, Lennard, passed away 20 years ago and Mrs Hutton moved back to West Hobart, recalling that she missed Bruny ‘terribly’.
The couple had three children, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs Hutton lived independently at home until the age of 105 and is now residing at Mary Ogilvy House in New Town, where the home’s oldest-ever resident will be celebrated with a party today.
She said she enjoys living at the home and is receiving a steady stream of visitors for her birthday.
